Work update

This post contains personal opinions and is not a statement from my employer.

Well it’s been quite a transition in the last few months. I’ve been largely too busy or too cautious to do any announcements as we move through the usual challenges of a new job (who am I to talk though - I’ve had less jobs than fingers)! But if I don’t do it now work is picking up again and it won’t happen.

Plus some circumstances have dictated that more public-facing profile, while previously I had to say “if you’ve found me on LinkedIn you are mistaken”, that is no longer true.

So I am (almost a fully qualified) Lecturer and I have (term 1) completed my first delivery of students (under mentorship).

I found it a steep curve and sometimes quite draining, yes of course it’s full on and I didn’t even have a full student load but the content I delivered was right up my alley and allowed my to (sensitively and carefully, yes I know…) weave in my experience which my cohort of mature age students really enjoyed.

So I will keep doing this for the time being, my contract (probation) having been extended and I am excited about my next training delivery coming up soon.

Something that I am working on which will become evident in the next series of posts and that aligns with that LinkedIn comment is you don’t just bring your past into your lecturing - you must maintain a present and a future too - currency of industry exposure, your own training record and perhaps freelance/hobbies/secondary employment is required in the mix too.

So I do need a programming project to inspire me. I have a few ideas and I’ve opened my mind to the potential of working with AI on things to bring that one-person scale to work that really wasn’t possible until recently. Leave your suggestions below if you want… 💡
