The early bird gets the fresh pastry

I just posted about seeking industry engagements. It’s beneficial for these to be in person and to break old habits. The excuse of working in a remote area doesn’t hold any more.

I trawled Meetup.com and in the past month I found something that it would have been great to know about years ago, and it has been running that long - Morning Startup.

This fits a perfect niche of:

  • In Perth - itself perhaps a rarity
  • In the morning, for those like me who have demands in the evening
  • Near a train station - Elizabeth Quay with thanks to Riff by Spacecubed - necessary because I literally barely made it to Kwinana before the freeway became a car park
  • Inclusive in terms of attendance - no one minded that at this stage I’m only startup-curious
  • Inclusive in terms of speakers and content - I’ve only seen two so far but there’s an archive to dig into and it caters for self-nomination and you are given trust to deliver
  • You are left hydrated and refreshed thanks to their sponsors (a shoutout to Typeset!)

All in all a bit of a unicorn itself really and I should point out, and this is a big one for me, globally inclusive. It’s time slot with the Perth time zone being what it is makes it something you could “tune into” as a professional development event in your organisation (hello New Zealanders at lunch).

Happy to say I will be back, the crowd was great to me, either in person when I can make it and online if not. I think I’ll add it to my podcast queue…

Hot tip for networking though - bring a LinkedIn!

**Morning Startup Perth **is fortnightly by registration at Meetup.com or online at PerthVideo.com.au.
